Illustration Friday - Excess

I have an excess of love in my life, my family, extended family, friends and more. I am blessed to have such excess of love. I am so grateful.

This is something I did this year that I think fits with today's topic of Excess. This is also a print in my Etsy shop. It was done in pen & ink and then digitally colored in Photoshop. Enjoy!

Stolen Painting: Fear of Being Forgotten

This was posted by one of my Flickr Contacts. If you have any info please pass it on.

Stolen Painting: Fear of Being Forgotten

**This is my sister's work, and it was stolen. Please read this post from her, and if you can help, I'd appreciate it!**

About a week ago a painting of mine was stolen from Joyengine, the gallery I've had it hanging at for the last year or so. I just found out because I've been overseas for a week, so I am only now getting to post this and hope that you all, if you could, will repost this for me. This piece has hundreds of hours of my life chronicled into it. It has never been marked for sale, means more to me than any chunk of money ever could, and has always been intended to be given to the person I originally created it for and about. I'm not sure that any person who could bring themselves to steal someone's work like this could ever understand that, but perhaps they could think about it for a few seconds and have a change of heart.

Listen - I don't care who you are, I don't care why you think you deserve my painting more than I do, and I don't care what your intentions were with stealing it. I just want it back. Stealing somebody's artwork is so audaciously disrespectful, I can't even figure out who would do something like that.

If you by chance see this hanging somewhere or you were by chance somehow involved in this, please do the right thing and return it. Wrap it in plastic and leave it at Joyengine's front door. Mail it to them. Do it completely anonymously, I don't care. Just return it. It means more to me than it does to whoever took it. And if you could, please repost this. Perhaps somehow in this crazy web of millions of myspacers this could fall under the right eyes.

Joyengine's address is 2037 13th Street Boulder, CO 80302. Their phone number is 303-449-1967. Please contact them (or myself) if you know anything about this.

Many thanks,
Shannon Bonatakis

The Beautiful Pirate

She is finally done!

ARGGGH! This is a painting that just evolved! It was going to be something completely different but then this beautiful pirate came out from the canvas. She must have a message for someone. Dead men tell no tales but maybe women do! ;) She lost her eye in a vicious battle but was victorious and still drop dead gorgeous! Let her beauty grace your space or place and be the topic of lots of conversations! This beauty is a combo of mediums, it has vintage ephemera underneath all the layers and you can still see the postcard and stamp if you look closely in her neck, it was from 1910. There is also light molding paste in the background. This painting has lots of cool texture as well. The sides are painted black so it's good to go right on your wall.

Painting has been sprayed with an archival spray to keep colors looking their best for years to come. This painting is 20" x 16" and will come with a (COA) certificate of authenticity signed by me.

Illustration Friday - Superstition

My take on "superstition". This was a pencil drawing then I redrew it into PS and added a few details. The patterned textures are from Angie Briggs - Bubblegum Machine - Digital Scrapbooking set.

Little story to go with it: When little Matilda wanted to play with her new umbrella indoors, her mother quickly scolded her and told her it was bad luck. Guess her mother was a bit "superstitious". So being the good little girl that she was, she went outdoors and played with her new friends (the birds).

Enjoy! :)

Work in Progress - Opinions?

Hi all,

Well this is my latest painting. It's a 16 x 20" canvas and is a mixed media piece. It started out as something completely different so that's why I need some opinions. I've titled it "Beautiful Pirate" and I'm trying to decide if I need to add anything in the background. I like how it looks like her hair is blowing in the wind and she's on the sea but can't decide if it's quite finished. That's where you come in! What do you think??? I'm trying to get better with faces, that's always been a struggle for me but I think she turned out pretty. Any advice is welcomed. Thanks in advance!!

Yet another treasury!!

I've made it onto another treasury on Etsy, thanks to zoo_gal AKA Darla of The Vintage Zoo.
She said my piece of art "Fall Speaks" was her inspiration for the treasury and it's also titled the same thing! I was soo happy to see it up on Etsy! Thanks Darla! Also check out her cute boutique, she sells anything cool and vintage!

UPDATE! This made the front page of Etsy yesterday morning!!! "YAY, can we say exposure???

Illustration Friday - Scales

So I'm a few days late but it's better than never!!

All the other birds admired George's lovely but unusual scales ... and George was proud!

The finished painting

The finished painting, originally uploaded by creativeFlutter AKA MazerDesign.

YAY I'm done!!! I've only been working on this for months and needed motivation! Well I got the motivation I was looking for 2 days ago when a friend asked me to display my art in his restaurant. I didn't have a whole lot since I haven't been painting daily so I needed to finish this and I did!! I really like how it turned out. I would love any feedback you may have. It's a large gallery wrapped canvas and the sides are painted black so you just have to hang it up! If it doesn't sell in the restaurant in the next month it will be going on my Etsy shop, unfortunately I do not have the room for it at home. Thanks for looking!

Sorry in blogland

Well things have been super busy lately and I've managed to neglect my blog. Sorry blog, sorry bloggers! Don't feel bad I've neglected my art journal too! Things are calming down a bit. I do have some good news, I will be displaying my art at a local restaurant here called The Great Adirondack Soup Company. My art will be displayed for a month and half which is cool. Just gotta buy some frames to hang it all up. I'll take a shot of it when it's all up for you. I've also got my big butt back into the gym! Lo is almost a year and I still haven't lost this baby weight! I'm back on WW again too. So wish me luck with all these crazy new things going on!! I promise to not neglect my little art blog! :)
