Bad Girls Challenge 9 Wood Blank

Seeing all the leftover Christmas decorations at Michael's got me started on this project. I think I paid 11 cents each for the silver leaves and fillers on the tree. This piece has lots of depth because of it. First off I knew I wanted to use some of my tree images I took a few years back to help the background pop. {1} I painted the 12 x 12 piece of wood with gesso to get rid of the brown of the wood and so it would have more tooth. {2} When that was dried I did an image transfer (I wanted to do my own tutorial for you but ran out of time, I do apologize) using Golden't gel matte medium with my images. Gel transfers are super easy you just have to have patience for them. Spread a layer on where you want to place the images you're transferring in my instance the trees. Place them face down onto the gel medium and let it sit overnight, make sure it's smooth and even. {3} The next day you will take your spray bottle and completely drench the paper (images) and start peeling up the layers of paper and you'll have the image left on the board! I didn't have the entire bottom of the trees so I had to draw and colors those in to blend so it looked real. I used my general's pencil as well as the caran d'ache neocolor crayon. {4} Once the board was dry I painted on a thin glaze of Payne's grey acrylic blended with the golden glazing solution. This is better then diluting it with water, gives it a more consistant layer. Payne's grey always reminds me of winter, it's bluish gray and perfect for this piece. {5} Once that had dried I gave the board some texture or snow as I call it. I created the main tree base with the light molding paste, I spread it on with an old burnisher to make it uneven and have ridges. I also added some to the bottom of the board for snow piles. Let this dry, if it's thin it will dry fast if it's super thick let it dry overnight. {6} Once dry I started ripping apart the Christmas ornaments, they are all on their own wires so I could bend them and place them where I wanted. I started layering them using the clear glue. Let that dry flat and overnight. {7} Next take the bridal garland and start snipping off the pieces you like and place where you like on the tree or below with glue. Let that dry. {8} Add some glue to the areas you want to glimmer with glass and sprinkle on the glass flakes. Let that all dry. {9} Next comes the embellishing, I used and opaque white pen to draw swirls all over, I added the snowflake pendant/charm to the tree so it dangled, I added the Jolee flat snowflakes placed with glue. Next I took the green distress ink and went around the edges of the quote. Lastly I placed the bird. Both the bird and quote were glued with the gel medium and glazed over with it. Once that was dry I traced around it with the sketch n wash pencil. Voila you have a gorgeous winter scene! Super easy!!

Forever Spring - JUST LISTED on Etsy

Today was a gloomy day, so gloomy I got to thinking that summer would never come. I LOVE Spring just not the gloomy, dark days we've been having lately, it was kind of depressing so I started creating this piece which just came together for me! This piece is so vivid and rich I don't want it to leave the nest. This is my job that I love and I know this must go. This piece was filled with lots of love! This mixed media piece has vintage ephemera circles with German and French text, glitter, acrylics, pencil, rubber stamps, salt, water color pens, oil pastels, Ranger Adirondack inks, white conte crayon and probably more that I'm forgetting. It's on a 16 x 20 stretched canvas. I had a lot of fun doing this piece. It is coated in beeswax so it gives it a dreamy feel. This piece has a lot of dimension and texture to it. The detail photos are before I put the wax on so they are more vivid than the first photo but you can see all the details better. This truly is a OOAK original, it's too big for me to scan so there will be no prints. You will be the only one to ever have this piece grace your home and with FREE SHIPPING how can you beat that?

Fabulous Etsy Finds

Well this week I've spent waaaaay too much time on Etsy. I would say I'm a definite addict, are there any self help books on dealing with an Etsy addiction?? I would say I need to read it if there is one. Anyways, with all the time spent on Etsy I've happened to find some noteworthy shops, I've been on Etsy for over 2 years now and I'm still discovering great new shops and sellers. Etsians are a great group of people, I say this because they're not commercialized someone put it in a good way, "Etsy is a window shoppers dream!" I was in chat for an hour which wasn't a complete waste of time because I walked away with 3 trades! I found a lot of people loved my art last night and were willing to trade their precious items with me. I traded for some handmade soap, a pearl necklace, and an antique Kerr jelly jar that has been Shabby Chic'ified (if that's a word). It was great fun!!!! I had 2 more trades the day before, an owl pillow and a vintage 50's bird pillow for my studio! I'm so excited about receiving all these goodies, it's like Christmas in April!! Of course I bought a few things as well and I'm also thrilled about those. Well let me get to the fabulous finds I wanted to share with you!

In no particular order here they are!

This fabulous print is from ArtandPhilanthropy, I just love all of the textures and patterns in it, I may have to purchase it soon!!!
This adorable print is from Dazeychic, I just love her work, I had a hard time choosing. She's also one of my favorite bloggers, she's a great writer. I bought this one, I loved it's sentiment.

This sweet print is from Fall Down Tree. I found him on somebody's treasury on the front page of Etsy. He has some adorable work! I love how simple but full his images are. Definitely a new fave!

Check out Freshline!!! She has some sweet illustrations and is a very sweet person from what I can tell. She was in the trading room last night and seemed very nice. She also has a nice blog.

Well those are my favorites for the week! Go check them all out you won't be disappointed!!

Happy weekend all!!!

Love Blooms

This is the newest print, hot off the Mac tonight! I was soooooo bummed today when it started snowing out, what the heck? It's almost April!! UGH, the joys of living in the north. I got to thinking of Spring time and new blooms, then thought of love because it seems there are always lovey dovey couples around in the spring, everything is fresh and new so hence the thought "Love Blooms". I have been trying to ward off my cold I caught from my sweet daughter, it's hard when all I seem to do is wipe long, stringy boogers from her cute little nose (sorry for the visual), this has been my week. So this print gives me cheer and hope for Spring and no more colds!!! I hope this brings a smile to your face. With much love,

Aimée

Spring Speaks

Well hello there! Long time no blog!! Well the Wheaton fam is back from vacation and trying to get back into the swing of things. Florida was wonderful and I was dreading coming back to the cold. It didn't help that the day I landed it was sooo cold out and wind gusts up to 40 mph. YUCK! I'm dreaming of Spring now, it helps me to get through the cold days. I created Spring Speaks, the third piece of my Seasonal Series. Here's to first blooms, cute butterflies and lots of sun!!! This piece makes me feel all warm inside and gives me hope that it will warm up soon!!!

Traveling with my 14 mos. old was not fun by myself on the way home. On the way down it was rough but Daddy was there to pass her off to when I needed to. She didn't sleep at all on the flight down and it was at night. I think she knew she was going on vacation. She was so stimulated with all the sun, the pool, new adventures and new people. It was so fun watching her experience all the new things she did. This picture sums up Lorelei on a daily basis!! Watching life through a child's eyes is wonderful!! Here's to much happiness and a VERY HAPPY Spring!

Until later!

A few Etsy Faves

I admit it, I'm a complete and total Etsy addict! Are there any support groups out there for my compulsion with Etsy????? ;) OK so during all the time I've spent on Etsy this week I found a few new favorite shops and I'd thought I'd share them with you!!! The photo above is from Tilesmile's shop. I adore these decorative tiles!! I'm totally hearting the YAYA tile!!! I need it for my studio but have spent too much this week so hopefully it will be there for a future purchase.

I also just received my new painting from EarthArt (see above) and I'm IN LOVE with it! I am currently collecting birds for my studio, all types, I love the cutesy birds I find all over Etsy, everyone seems to have them and they are usually in most of my art as well, not sure why, maybe another addiction on my part!!

Another total fave of mine is TeterDesigns!!! I now own 3 pairs of these Teter originals, the third being the Japanese Flowers you see above!!! You will not find a nicer seller out there, Mark is amazing to work with and is fast as well. He even sent me my earrings during a horrible ice storm he was in!! Kudos to Mark, check out his incredible shop! I will always be a repeat customer!!!

Another shop I found this week and purchased this pair of swirly hoop earrings from is LoopsDesigns, simply amazing!!!

OK last but not least check out MercersDaughter she has some beautiful little paintings as well as some adorable jeweled pieces, I am doing a trade with her now too!! So now you have a few more shops to check out in your spare time. If you're like me in your spare time you browse Etsy and that's what gets me in trouble!!! LOL

Well enjoy these new shops and send me some feedback about what you'd like me to write about. I need input people!!!! ;)

As always thanks for reading!! ;)

Just launched!!!

Another new venture, as if I don't have enough going on!!! Well my friend Christian and I thought it would be fun to have a store together to sell our goodies, all of it random, hence the name Something Random, that way we could list anything in there we want as long as we created it. We'll see how it goes but so far it's just too darn cute! We will be listing things daily until we get everything in there that we have. We took over 120 photos tonight for listings!! Check it out!! Something Random!!

The Beautiful Pirate

She is finally done!

ARGGGH! This is a painting that just evolved! It was going to be something completely different but then this beautiful pirate came out from the canvas. She must have a message for someone. Dead men tell no tales but maybe women do! ;) She lost her eye in a vicious battle but was victorious and still drop dead gorgeous! Let her beauty grace your space or place and be the topic of lots of conversations! This beauty is a combo of mediums, it has vintage ephemera underneath all the layers and you can still see the postcard and stamp if you look closely in her neck, it was from 1910. There is also light molding paste in the background. This painting has lots of cool texture as well. The sides are painted black so it's good to go right on your wall.

Painting has been sprayed with an archival spray to keep colors looking their best for years to come. This painting is 20" x 16" and will come with a (COA) certificate of authenticity signed by me.
