Dear bloggy followers,

I Just moved my blogger blog over to Word Press. Needed a change of venue. My art career has been on a hiatus for awhile. I just did a long distance move from cold Upstate NY all the way to the opposite extreme of sunny Florida! I grew up in Florida so this has always been home. Lots of perks to moving back South including being close to most of my family, in-laws and BFF’s. Most are within the vicinity. I do terribly miss my adorable niece and nephew, brother and sister-in-law who are still in NY as well as my unborn nephew and his parents in Washington. Life took some major twists and turns in the last 6 months. We sold our first home in 3 months which was nothing short of a miracle, we lost 2 cats, I lived away from my sweet baby girl and hubby for almost 2 months during this process, we lived with my in-laws for a few months until we got a rental. Quite a long process and I’m glad that it’s over and we’re starting to get some normalcy. Before that craziness we were busy getting our house up to par to sell. It’s been a nutty year. We have been blessed to live in a wonderful city and have an amazing rental house. My studio is almost set to go and then I can create!! I think the last time I created something was in January 2010! Too long to not be creative!

Here’s a few things I did within the last 24 hours as far as anything artsy goes:

I reopened my Etsy shop – Still working on inventory for my ArtFire shop, may just keep that on hold.

I opened a Red Bubble Shop – I sold 8 cards today too!

I started my new/old blog here on WordPress

I haven't blogged since August?? Crazy! I'm sorry, my life has been insane. I am now officially moved to FL but still waiting to get in our own place. My life is scattered right now. Waiting for some normalcy while living with the in laws. Grateful to them but ready to move on. Anyways more about all of that later. I'm blogging about a fabulous giveaway on Allen Designs. It's official!

We're on our way! Well not literally yet.

I'm sure you've noticed the sound of crickets here on my blog for quite some time. I've missed blogging but haven't had much to say or share for a long while. My studio has been packed up for months! Well we have been diligently working on fixing up/staging our house to get it on the market. Today was the day it was officially listed. Nervous? A bit. Excited? Yes! We're moving back to sunny Florida and we are super excited! We've lived in Upstate NY for the last 6 years but things changed rapidly for us. Most of my family up and left town and either moved to Seattle, WA or various places in FL within the last 4 months. I have one sibling who will still be in the area with his family and it's going to be so strange for us all to be missing. I am sad to leave them and my sweet niece and nephew. Getting together is going to require much coordination on all ends once we're all in our new places.

Change can be good but it's also been hard. Hard to leave loved ones and hard to say goodbye to friends. NY was a fun ride while it lasted. I watched my brothers get married, I learned how to ride a motorcycle, have my license, owned my own bike, have traveled to NYC numerous times on whims, bought our first house, had a baby, became an aunt, found my passion in art and even exhibited locally and in NYC, made new friends, enjoyed seasons and so much more. I will NOT miss slush, snow, taxes, our dinky little mall, the crazy Quebec drivers, the lack of healthy restaurants. I know we were hear for the right season and we're moving on to a new one. Pray for us on this new journey, wish us luck as well. When we're all settled again I will FINALLY unpack my studio and begin creating again! I miss it!!!

I made a bunch of jewelry last night with earthy themes. I do try and reuse old broken jewelry parts when I can. There was definitely a color theme last night, blue and green and I didn't even realize today was Earth Day till this morning. I know I'm bad with dates. Today is my brother Nathan's birthday, wish I could see him he just recently moved all the way to the west coast! Happy birthday Nate!

On a side note I will be offering some eco-wallets and bags in my shop soon made by my lovely Mama. These are so cool and I've been using my wallet for about a year now and I still get compliments every where I go. Look for them soon!

Coral Reef focal

Coral Reef Necklace that started it all!

Yes you read that right! I'm in love with a monkey named Beady Monkey! I found her while browsing the supplies section of Etsy looking for unique beads. How unique are handmade beads made out of horn, with beautiful paper on top and a glossy resin finish? VERY!! I ordered a set of beads with a coral reef theme and she threw in a few freebies which got me started!! When my beads arrived I squealed with excitement! Well not literally but I was in awe, thought they were super cool. Immediately I started thinking about my designs with her super cool beads for my shop Impress 2 Bless (you can read about it more here).

Frida needs a home! She's been homeless for quite some time well not exactly homeless but she's feeling pretty rejected. She's sick of staying here with me ;) Anyways if you like her and want her make me an offer I need to make some space around here.

A little about her:

"Feet, who needs them when I have wings to fly?" - Frida Kahlo

This piece is a 12 x 16 mixed media piece. I used ephemera, ranger adirondack ink, acrylics, beeswax, pen, conte crayon, oil pastels, stickers and more. It is covered with a thin layer of beeswax to seal it all so it has a nice scent as well. The flowers in her hair were cut out from a postcard from 1910. The original sketch of Frida that I collaged is my original sketch for my digital piece Frida I just painted over her. If you LOVE Frida like I do then you'll love this piece.

This piece will come with a (COA) certificate of authenticity signed by me. This will be shipped Priority mail out to you as well.

I started a new Etsy shop. Yes I know I said I would cut back but this shop isn't really for me, it's for others. This came out of me wanting to help my friends and family in need. I have a lot going on on both sides of my family at the moment, people needing help and in financial difficulty. Major life changes are happening and we're not all sure we're ready for these things to happen. My art has kind of taken a back burner lately and I think this is one of the reasons why. I never have my own money when it comes to wanting to help others so I came up with the idea to make and sell jewelry and if it profits (I am praying it does) then I can help my loved ones. Every little bit helps right? I'm faithfully making jewelry in the evenings and spending time with my kiddo during the day. Next day if I can I post them in the shop and on my FB Fanpage. Please check it out when you get a chance. I've had one sale the second day my shop was running, boy was that encouraging! Another idea I had was to put one piece of art in this shop and the money would go towards a missionary friend I have who needs financial support. (still working on this one)
I've named my shop Impress 2 Bless. Please spread the word for me. I may do a giveaway from time to time on here as well. Can you hear the crickets?

You know the sound of those crickets in the summertime happily making their little noises after it's completely silent? Yeah kind of like my blog has been, silent and quiet. Not much has been going on my little art world. Life is rapidly changing all around me and I haven't been feeling inspired at all. Insert cricket sound here. Well after much thought I am taking an art hiatus, as if you didn't know that by the silence right? I was trying to balance mommyhood and my art "career" and just can't at the moment. My sweet daughter is taking up most of my time and we're having fun together and strengthening our relationship on a daily basis. I've gotten more hugs and kisses and random "I love you"s than I ever have gotten from her. She needs me and I cherish this time together. Sales have been way down and I have to admit I'm a little discouraged. I see all my cool artsy friends moving on with their careers, writing books, holding classes and selling a ton, I have to admit I'm a little jealous but I'm not at that point right now. I'm happy for them all but wish I could be a part of that world right now. The timing isn't right and I know it will be at another time just not right now.

Life at home has been nutso I've been a decluttering fool and that includes my art supplies and mixed media stuff galore! Last night I made 5 mixed media grab bags full of goodies! I'm selling them on Etsy and they are chock full of stuff! Check them out if you need a boost in your stash and little extras!

Bad Girls Project 52 - Challenge 11 Gods/Goddesses

Meet the Sea Goddess!

Challenge 11 – 3-D Figure (jointed, pattern, stuffed, simple/complicated, on stand, wall display, sitting, painted, glued, stitched, very open options, etc…)
Theme – Gods & Goddesses (human, animal, cultural myth, invented, etc…)
Required material – Fibers (ribbon, yarn, string, lace, floss, cord, etc…)

All I can say about this piece is that it definitely was a challenge to me. I had the concept in my head but wasn't sure how to go about creating it since I can't sew!! I did my best and that's all that matters, right? Since I can't sew I was stumped. Then I had an epiphany on how I was going to create a "stuffie" so to speak. I remembered an issue of Stuffed Magazine where Claudine Hellmuth demonstrated an easy piece of art using her Sticky Back Canvas. So that's what I did! I cut out her tail and started drawing on it with the neocolors to create scales and then went back over it with water to soften it. When that was dry I painted extra acrylic over it. I found the vintage image of the top of the mermaid's body and printed it out on the sticky backed canvas and from there just started cutting and creating the rest of the mermaid. This mermaid is definitely the American-sized one! LOL I didn't mean to make her so large she just turned out that way. I had some batting from a cheap pillow and stuffed her right up!

My concept worked mostly but then I realized I had to sew the top of the body (printed part) to the lower part, I hand stitched it and got lots of cuts! Once that was accomplished I started to piece her together slowly. Instead of painting the back of her (top) I used colorful/matching paper to add more texture and detail. The hardest part of this piece was making sure she stayed together and that's where the pins came in. I glued (with gel medium) her up all around the edges because the sticky part of the canvas wasn't enough to hold it all with the batting. Once glued I pinned her up like a pattern would be and let it dry for quite some time. This piece was constantly needing to be reinforced (PATIENCE)!! Once she was put together I started embellishing and painting. The embellishing was the most fun. I found jewelry findings that fit my theme and just started playing around. I painted in her face and added more details, glued on the fibers for her hair and even gave her a sparkly ring! The options are endless. Just have fun in the process and remember to stay patient if you try this at home. I was super frustrated and uninspired at times but I think the outcome was worth it! What do you think?? Bad Girls Challenge 9 Wood Blank

Seeing all the leftover Christmas decorations at Michael's got me started on this project. I think I paid 11 cents each for the silver leaves and fillers on the tree. This piece has lots of depth because of it. First off I knew I wanted to use some of my tree images I took a few years back to help the background pop. {1} I painted the 12 x 12 piece of wood with gesso to get rid of the brown of the wood and so it would have more tooth. {2} When that was dried I did an image transfer (I wanted to do my own tutorial for you but ran out of time, I do apologize) using Golden't gel matte medium with my images. Gel transfers are super easy you just have to have patience for them. Spread a layer on where you want to place the images you're transferring in my instance the trees. Place them face down onto the gel medium and let it sit overnight, make sure it's smooth and even. {3} The next day you will take your spray bottle and completely drench the paper (images) and start peeling up the layers of paper and you'll have the image left on the board! I didn't have the entire bottom of the trees so I had to draw and colors those in to blend so it looked real. I used my general's pencil as well as the caran d'ache neocolor crayon. {4} Once the board was dry I painted on a thin glaze of Payne's grey acrylic blended with the golden glazing solution. This is better then diluting it with water, gives it a more consistant layer. Payne's grey always reminds me of winter, it's bluish gray and perfect for this piece. {5} Once that had dried I gave the board some texture or snow as I call it. I created the main tree base with the light molding paste, I spread it on with an old burnisher to make it uneven and have ridges. I also added some to the bottom of the board for snow piles. Let this dry, if it's thin it will dry fast if it's super thick let it dry overnight. {6} Once dry I started ripping apart the Christmas ornaments, they are all on their own wires so I could bend them and place them where I wanted. I started layering them using the clear glue. Let that dry flat and overnight. {7} Next take the bridal garland and start snipping off the pieces you like and place where you like on the tree or below with glue. Let that dry. {8} Add some glue to the areas you want to glimmer with glass and sprinkle on the glass flakes. Let that all dry. {9} Next comes the embellishing, I used and opaque white pen to draw swirls all over, I added the snowflake pendant/charm to the tree so it dangled, I added the Jolee flat snowflakes placed with glue. Next I took the green distress ink and went around the edges of the quote. Lastly I placed the bird. Both the bird and quote were glued with the gel medium and glazed over with it. Once that was dry I traced around it with the sketch n wash pencil. Voila you have a gorgeous winter scene! Super easy!!

What you'll need:

12 x 12 Wood blank (purchased at Michael's)
Gesso
Golden Gel Medium Matte
Print out's of trees for background (will be used in image transfer)
Golden Light Molding Paste
acrylics ( I used Golden's Payne's grey, white), also used Claudine Hellmuth's light blue paint
Jolee's (snowflakes)
snowflake pendant
Christmas decorations (all the silver and leaves in the tree) they were on clearance at Michael's.
Bridal wire garland for the white flowers, heart and clear beads
White glass glitter for the shimmer on the snow (glass flakes)
Distress ink in green for around the quote

Hey all.

Just thought I'd share a few things with you. I am considering closing my ArtFire shop to simplify things this year. The only sales I've had on there are from friends who I've directed there, nobody random. I LOVE ArtFire and the perks it has with the verified account but my hands are in too many pots so to speak. I have to update so many sites, blogs included. Why not make my life a teensy bit easier. I haven't decided yet but I know I need to simplify somehow. I've had more success on Etsy but I've been on there longer. I would love your thoughts.

Next I've added 12 new items to my Etsy shop and they're all originals!! These are not 40% off because they're new for 2010. Various price levels and perfect little gifts. Check them out in my new section here.

Nextly two of my very talented artsy friends are having a little workshop at the Purple Cottage. If I could I'd be there. If you live in FL it would be an easy class for you to get to. Check it out! I am very humbled and honored that I was chosen to be EBSQart.com's blogger of the week! Another wonderful artist/friend of mine is one of their blog writers and asked me if I would like to be featured and of course I said YES! Amanda Makepeace is her name and be sure to check out her beautiful art too! She does some amazing work! I'm happy to say I won one of her ACEO's on her blog awhile back. I have it framed and it's gorgeous!

Lately I've found time to created some new little pieces. Yesterday I created a little series called "Little Houses" while Lorelei was napping. It felt great! Here's what I made.

I also ran into an idea on someones blog that sparked me to created this cool concept on colored Popsicle sticks. Basically it will help me to not run out of ideas. The combinations are endless. I wrote colors on the red sticks, subjects on the yellow, words on the blue and mediums on the green. I haven't used the system yet but when I randomly picked you can see the combinations!! So fun!! Can't wait to use it when I'm stumped! Check it out!

Melange on Etsy Altered Bottle Challenge

I was finally able to participate in another challenge put on by the Melange Team on Etsy. I am a member of this mixed media group and most of the ladies in this group have been published in the awesome mags put out by Stampington & Co. as well as Cloth Paper Scissors. I'm lucky to have such fabulous team mates!! You don't have to be a member to participate in the challenge. Check out the details here.

This bottle was found buried in our yard a few years ago when our water line broke. It was used as "clean fill" in the 50's. Yeah right! It's either a beer or soda bottle, my guess is beer because the way some of the things in our house was built, you'd wonder! LOL Anyways I've upcycled it and really like how it turned out. Hope you do too!

Art Binge!

Celestial Lovers

That's what I had tonight, an art BINGE!! Just hung out in the studio till inspiration hit!! I forgot that I made a bunch of clay pieces last year to use in my art. I was originally looking for my paper clay which I still can't find but ended up finding my bag of clay pieces! This is what I created tonight! I'll take better photos but for now you can see. It was fun having paint and gel medium all over my fingers!!

I should get to bed. I'm up late again and tomorrow is my baby girls 3rd birthday! Actually in about 45 minutes, 3 years ago tonight I had her! WOW!!!

The recent earthquake in Haiti has devastated children and families in the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck just ten miles from the heart of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital, where people are left to search through rubble in hopes of finding loved ones.

Emergency supplies such as food, clean water and shelter are desperately needed.

Here is how I'm helping. Any sales this week on items that are 40% off (non originals) already will have 20% donated to the Red Cross. Any sales on full price items (originals) that I've listed here will have 50% donated to YWAM Haiti Relief. Click on my banner above to go to my Etsy shop.

Bad Girls Challenge # 7 - Insect Shadow Box

Challenge 7 – Shadow Box (good size, found, cigar, repurposed, purchased, etc…)

Theme – Insects (butterflies, bees, spiders, moths, mantis, caterpillars, etc…)
Required material – Fabric (velvet, cotton, felt, lace, old/new, antiqued, etc…)

I really enjoyed this project! I was stumped at first and was going to do a piece with a bee in it but it just wasn't coming together. So I went on another search for a theme and decided upon a butterfly theme when I saw the butterfly ornament at Michael's! After finding the focal point I then perused their scrapbook paper and found the perfect paper, from that point on it just came together for me! Serves me right for buying everything ahead of time when I wasn't set on a theme. Anyways this is super easy.

First off paint your box with gesso if it has a busy background or you want a bit more texture to your piece. Since my box was a cigar box it had very ornate art on it. Let dry. Then choose your paint color and paint the outside and partial inside so no white shows. Measure out your shadow box/cigar box on the inside and cut the paper to fit. I used 2 coordinating papers, one for the sides and one for the background. Glue them down with your glue stick. When that is dry you can now add your focal point where you want it (butterfly). I used the E6000 glue because it had a clip on the back of it. Also on the way home my butterfly was put in the bag with something heavy and was slightly crushed so I had to put it back together. Next I glued on my trim with regular tacky glue but in clear. Next came the cute little flowers! Just glue those babies on! I wanted this piece to look like it could stand alone so I decided to add the knobs on the bottom to give it some height. First I painted the knobs a darker purple (2 coats) and when those were dry I glued them to the bottom with the E6000 glue as well. I let that sit overnight to be sure it was dry. Next was the embellishments, I gathered a bunch of tulle and wrapped some silver craft wire around it so it would keep it's shape. Once I was happy with the shape I added more E6000 to the top and took some sewing pins to hold it in place. When that was dry I pinned an old brooch to the front of it for extra class. I decided the sides needed some glitz so I applied some gold glitter. Next I sprayed it with fixative to keep them in place. Just a little though you don't want to drown the piece. Still wasn't totally happy so I added the little polka dots to the knobs and swirled around the dots with gold gel pen. Last but not least I used the word "Papillon" French for butterfly and a little butterfly sticker next to it. Et voila it's done!

Acrylics - I used Claudine Hellmuth's purple paint, dark purple & white for the dots on the knobs.

Coordinating scrapbook paper

Tulle (fabric on top)
Found objects (gold brooch on top)
E6000 glue for the knobs
Silver craft wire
Sewing pins to hold the tulle in place at the top
Fabric Fancies Flowers in champagne/gold
Trim (I purchased mine in the Bad Girls shop)

Up for sale is one of my latest pieces called "The Danseur". This is a whimsical piece that I hope you love. I've decided to try it out this way since my shops right now are all on sale to get rid of the old art. This is new for me so hopefully it works!

A little about the piece: It's mixed media and has an image transfer of the dancer and lots of layers of paint. It was created for Carmen Torbus' Spill it Class. I just finished it and wanted someone to have it who loves it. It's on a hard canvas and will come wired and ready to hang. Will also come with a certificate of authenticity from EBSQ.

Well I've finally finished up Carmen Torbus' class called Spill It and I was way behind. I got caught up the other day and finished my last canvas tonight. It was a great class and I would recommend it to anyone. We painted with our fingers!!!! I created 3 pieces for that class and had a blast doing it. I learned a lot as well. If you ever get the chance to take a class from her go for it!! This last piece I call "The Bride". Enjoy! I guess I have wedding on the brain. My sister-in-law in FL was just proposed to yesterday and I'm thrilled!

I'm not going to mass promote it on Twitter, here and Facebook it's such a waste of time and takes up too much of my time with little or no response. Life is too short to live it online trying to make your life grand. Yeah there are critics who will say you need something for you, you need a hobby. Yes that's right but I have a responsibility to my girl and there is always time for hobbies in the future. I'm not quitting all together I'm just changing my focus. I feel like there will be a blessing for her and for me in this. She needs me and I need her. I'm going to start exploring hobbies with her and nurturing her the way I should be. Just typing this is freeing and I know I'm making the right decision. Follow us on this journey if you like. This blog is where I'm going to post our grand adventures and times together. Her and I. Because of that I need less online activities to maintain. Life is too short people!! I hope you understand!

Bad Girls Project 52 Challenge #5 - ATC's

Hello all you Bad Girls!

Some of you may not know what an ATC is so here is some useful info for you! Taken straight from Wikipedia:

Artist Trading Cards (or ATCs) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cards,^[1] or 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches (6cm X 9cm),^[2] small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets.^[3] The ATC movement developed out of the mail art movement and has its origins in Switzerland.^[4] Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc). The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold. To view more of the article, click here.

I have my own collection of ATC's I've been adding to for years. Some are framed and others are in an album. These are sooo fun and so addicting.

Art Tip: You know all those little bits of scraps and papers I told you to hang on to? Well they are perfect for little art pieces!! I save everything and use them in my ATC's.

Another cool tip is that your standard card from a card deck is the right size as well. Take an old card deck and glue your art right on top, paint on top or collage on top. I used to buy old decks from the antique shop for this purpose. Make sure they are the right size though.

Tutorial:

These are really easy to create and make great gifts for people. The only rule in making ATC's is to make sure you have them the correct size at 2.5" x 3.5" and the rest is up to your creativity. I really had a hard time with this project which is so ironic. I was over thinking them and sometimes the most simplest design is the best! I chose the "Life" theme and wanted to show various aspects of life. "Life is Friends", "Life is Love", "Life is Funny" & "Life is Mysterious". When I knew what I was looking for I went on a hunt for the perfect vintage photos for this project. I found them and they just came together! First I took my ATC paper and applied a thin layer of acrylic paint with my fingers, next I cut the various shapes using my Cricut Cutter that I wanted in the scrapbook paper. Glued them down the way I wanted them, trimmed the images to fit the way I wanted, glued them and found my transparencies that I thought fit and glued them. Next I applied the Pearl Ex with the Q-Tip to add some glimmer I chose gold. I traced the main image with the Sketch & Wash Pencil to make it stand out, I also traced the flower, heart and other paper. I then colored in the cheeks on the images to make them rosy with the colored pencil. Last but not least I went around the edges with the Tim Holtz Distress ink to frame the images. To finish off the ATC's I added another piece of paper to the back to make it more stiff as well as to add color. I cut out another shape and titled, signed and dated each one. Have fun with this and happy ATC trading, they really are little treasures!

I'm overweight! According to the Wii I'm OBESE! YIKES! What a horrible word! I've never been called that before! How rude! Well it was rude enough to get me to act on it! With all the sickness going on in the world right now I've decided to quit my gym membership and not bring my daughter into the germfest that is the gym and bought myself a Wii! I am going to work out at home for at least 30 minutes a day using my Wii and various fitness games on the Wii. I will do more than 30 if time and toddler allows but I am saying this right here and now that I am going to commit to 30 minutes a day! I NEED to lose this baby weight - she's going to be 3 (how ridiculous!) and I need to feel good about myself again! Want to join me??? I've started a group on Facebook and will be logging in daily to keep up with it. I need others to help keep me motivated and I'm sure you need it too. Along with working out I am doing the Low Carb diet and cutting out sugars and white flowers as much as possible. If this sounds good and fun to you please join me!!! I'm having so much fun with the Wii it doesn't even feel like working out but I am breaking a sweat!

Bad Girls Project 52, Challenge #3 Reveal!

The "Me" Box - I had to keep this project simple because I was on vacation and didn't have a lot of time to complete it. I wanted a piece that had little elements about me inside so it's really like a treasure box. The theme I chose to do about me was my love for Fall, Fall elements and it all just came together with that in mind.

This is me circa 1975 or 1976. I was a Fall baby! To this day Fall is my favorite season, especially in the Northeast. Fast forward many many years and you see my little mini-me Lorelei enjoying the leaves like I did around the same age!

I carried on the Fall theme with the copper skeleton leaves

I have boxes of found objects so it was hard to choose items to use
which is why I chose Fall-like elements.

My favorite part are the buttons!

I have some comedic elements as well like "I grew up with fake legs in my house", my dad was a prosthetist orthotist and made fake arms and legs! LOL No joke!

My keepsakes which I'm sure I'll add to over the years.

Something I strive for is to always learn, create & grow.

My process:

I started out by gessoing the paper mache blank inside and out and then rubbed on various colors of distress ink. I picked a photo of me and framed it in fall ribbon. I knew I wanted to do a Fall theme because I LOVE Fall and I was born in the fall. Once I had the theme it just pulled itself together. I cut off the back of a vintage book cover and glued it on the base. I also distressed and gessoed that a bit as well. I then glued on my photo, canvas stickers, leaves, door plate and buttons. Let the glue dry overnight to make sure everything is secure. I then traced the elements with my sketch and wash pencil to bring them out a bit more. Next I glued the smaller paper mache box inside in the center. I stamped a leaf stamp with Brown Staz On Ink. I cut out a place in the top of the box to embed the green leaf pendant and secured that with glue and gold paper on the back of that. I distressed the smaller box as well. Then found my elements that meant a lot to me, created tags and attached them with white string. I chose items that were all about me, part of me and that meant a lot to me. Last but not least I glued on the skeleton leaves around the edge, glued on the pearls, glued on the large ribbon and attached an old amber pendant that was my Nana's to the bottom of the ribbon with copper wire and voila that is my treasure box!

Supplies: Paper Mache Blank (I chose a book shaped box); smaller paper mache box for the inside; found items (door plate, vintage book cover, items for inside); string; paper; vintage buttons; e6000 glue; ribbon; Christmas Tree Ornament (copper leaves that I tore apart); Copper skeleton leaves; copper wire; pencil; old earring or pendant for ribbon ornament; Ranger Distress Ink in purple, green and brown; Gesso; Tacky glue; photo printout; Gold Pearl Ex; Pitt Pens various colors; Generals Sketch & Wash pencil; freshwater pearls; white string; little tags I hand punched; tag punch;

New Traditions

Hello Blogland!

Sorry I've been MIA for the last few weeks. It's been a whirlwind! I had a friend visiting for a week at the beginning of the month then a few days after that we were in FL for 10 days!! I haven't really created much lately. I wanted you to know that I hope to get back into the swing of things soon! I did manage to create a little piece while down in Florida. Actually the highlight of my trip was creating art with my beautiful sisters-in-law Jenny & Jessica. We have started a new tradition! We raided the local Michael's and grabbed some paint, canvases and extra goodies and went to town!! I was so shocked and amazed at how fast their art came together. I brought a few of my mixed media tools with me and showed them some techniques and they were off and running with it!! Here are the pieces we created! It was so fun!!

Jenny is going to be doing a triptych this is the middle piece.

Recently I was selected to a be Bad Girl for Project 52! I'm thrilled because not only will I be stretching my artistic abilities with a fabulous team but also will be encouraging others to embrace their artistic dreams!! This is a year long artistic journey that I have committed to and I hope you do as well! Every 2nd & 4th Monday during each month you will see a new challenge posted to do as well as the design teams (DT) interpretation of that challenge. Well today is the first challenge!

The first challenge is HERO. I had a lot of fun with this challenge! Being that it is the month of October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I decided to make my "Hero" a breast cancer survivor and superhero! For selling purposes she'll be called "Hope" for this challenge I shall call her the "Pink Avenger" - Saving the Tatas One At A Time! Thought the world could use a little humor! Not to make light of women battling cancer but to spread hope and joy even in the worst of times. I will have included a tutorial in the Project 52 blog on how I created this piece. I hope you like it! It's completely different from my normal art but I had fun creating it!

Here are some helpful tips in getting started in mixed media:

Never throw anything out! Even bits of scraps can make or break a piece. Look at everyday objects in a new light. This will make you have lots of stuff lying around but you never know when you'll need or want to use it! I even keep my cup cozies from Starbucks, it makes for great texture in pieces!
Gel Medium is your best friend!! I use Golden Gel Mediums in all my art it has so many uses! Invest in a bigger jar you'll need it!

I'm doing so many new things this year and a Christmas tag swap is one of them! The lovely and talented Pat May of Whyte is hosting this particular swap and I was lucky to be a part of it! I created 9 tags and will be receiving 9 various tags from 9 other talented artists! Exciting!! I had so much fun creating these buggers. I used lots of Pearl X powders in the background, white paint, caran d'ache neocolor crayons, pitt pens, stamps, ranger distress ink, gel pens, brads, fiber and some beads!! Each one is unique and all have one word stamped on it. Here are the words: joy, love, peace, santa, rejoice, sweet, give, sing and home. Spill It!!

I'm soooooooooooooooooooooo excited about a new online workshop I'm taking called Spill It! I just happened to see it on Facebook the other day. Most of my friends on Facebook are all artists and I get to see these goodies now and again! Anyways the workshop is being taught by mixed media artist Carmen Torbus and you can win a spot in her class by following this link if you don't win it's only $43 which is soooo reasonable. I've learned so much in the online classes I've taken and build upon my techniques and skills each time. The class starts Oct. 1 and runs through the 31st but you will have access to the videos for 2 months after. You work at your own pace. The purpose of the class is to have fun and get your creativity going, key word "your"! It's you on canvas!! Just thought you'd like to know!

Tomorrow is the BIG day!

Lorelei gets her cast off tomorrow morning at 9:15 am! I'm so excited and nervous all rolled up into one. She has been such an amazing, strong, little girl through this whole process. She totally got it the entire time and knew that something was wrong with her leg but the huge, hIdEOus spica cast was going to make it all better. We had some incredible bonding moments with Lorelei during this time and we tried to make the best of it on a daily basis, it wasn't always easy but here we are at the end! Six weeks felt like an eternity but then it also flew. We all survived and found out how strong we really are.

I wanted to thank everyone for their kind thoughts, prayers, words of encouragement (for J and I), videos and gifts galore for Lo and things to keep her busy. I have some amazing people I call my friends. A lot of you who sent things I have never met in person but you still cared for us. I am blessed by all of you and truly thankful for you all. I know for a fact the tremendous outpouring has blessed others around me. You are all amazing and kind and for that I love you.

It's going to take some time to get back into the normal routine and for Lorelei to walk normal so continued prayers are appreciated. I am going to be her physical therapist as well and take her swimming as much as I can during the recovery process. I know my little dynamo will be back stronger than ever, probably sooner than I can imagine.

I just wanted you to know how blessed we are to have you in our lives. Thank you.

Reminder - Can't keep up is a good thing!!!!

Hi all!

I'm exhausted!!! I have been keeping late nights and taking care of Lo who is still in her cast :( . I just can't keep up with life and my art life together!! I have been selling art like hotcakes which is WONDERFUL! The pieces I have been selling have been big and small alike. I still have my art in 3 places locally and if one sells I have to replace it with a similar sized piece. Well I just sold my very large piece that I didn't even have a chance to blog about yet called "The Earth Laughs In Flowers". It is 24 x 36 and very vibrant. It's light and airy and a different style for me. That same night I sold it I created a new piece called "Whimsical Garden" (same size) in a similar style. The big piece was a focal piece at a local restaurant so I didn't want there to be a bare wall. While there switching out things I met a lady who was looking at my art and may purchase a piece for her sister. The same thing happened before when I was hanging "The Earth Laughs in Flowers" 2 girls were looking at my art while I was hanging it and have since gone around town looking at it! I was busy getting things ready for the "All About Birds" show at the library which will be up for a month as well. I've been scanning prints like crazy and even started a new series called "From the Book" (all originals listed on ArtFire). Busy, busy, busy!!! PHEW!! Tired yet? I am!

This is great! I feel like I'm finally on a roll and all the late nights and constant marketing online is paying off. Thank you to all who have passed on my links or have purchased my art. Because of the sales I have been able to pay off 2 credit cards!! What a good feeling that is!!! Still a ways to go but it's a dent! I need to be debt free!!! THANK YOU!

I just found out last week that I am going to be in an upcoming artisan spotlight on ArtFire in a few weeks!! So I'm busy stocking up my ArtFire shop. If you see a new piece you like it will most likely be listed there. I am trying to generate more sales in that shop now. They have soooo many great features that are very helpful when listing items.

Tattoo (so happy it wasn't changed much!!)

Who knew I could do this? A friend of mine asked me on Sunday night if I could do this tattoo for her for her first tattoo appt. on Monday night! I had to quickly do this and it came together! I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. I even got out my old light table and tracing paper and started layering the pieces like I see them do on LA Ink, what a fun way to work!! I really enjoyed it! After I had my basic design down I scanned it in and cleaned it up a bit in Photoshop and added color to it. She absolutely loved it too!!! The rest is history! I now have a few more people lined up who want my art on their skin! How cool is that?

Here's a little story behind it:

This was written by my friend: (Her brother has some disease of which I'm not sure of but has had major health issues) this one is about me and my brother ♥ Love has sustained him♥ ( God has sustained him,for God is Love)...Love has beaten death,on two levels for him.Here ,and eternally. The bird symbolizes how I have seen my brother,in his glorified body in my dreams I have walked with side by side with him...I have seen him in spirit and in truth..and I have seen him fly :) -The ultimate Freedom ...blue- his favorite color and also representative of Revelation and the Holy Spirit. the heart underneath the eye...which I didn't even have to ask for -but was thinking about how to incorporate a red tear (and when Aimee sent it it was there :)-prophetic moment much Aimee?) to me represents two measures one of suffering in death(Jesus),and suffering in life (Keith's)....

Hi all!

Hope you're well, we're surviving here in broken leg land with Lo. Today starts week 3 of her being in a spica cast, not fun at all. We're finding new and fun things to stay busy. She and I did art together this morning but when she wanted to stop I wanted to keep going! :) She's going to have so much art from this 6 week period of being this cast, it's great!!

Anyways just wanted to let you know about a few new listings I have in my shops. I was recently challenged by my friend Christian to do more ethnic art. She told me that most of my art had white chics in them and I couldn't agree with her more. Never really thought about it. Didn't mean to offend by that just never crossed my mind. So I took her up on her challenged and decided to give it a shot! Well this first image was my first attempt! I like how she turned out!! What do you think? My friend Nancy Hunt-Bartek who some of you other artists might know helped me with a name because I was clueless! She came up with the name "She Is" which fits perfectly. I was thinking of calling it "Just Be" but that didn't fit as well. She exudes a quiet confidence and strength about her. I hope to do more paintings just like this! I have prints in both my ArtFire and Etsy shop and the original is listed here.

This next piece is more collagy (if that's a word) and also has an ethnic look to it. I called it "Embrace Your Dreams". I heavily layered it and it has lots of texture because of it. Also prints in both shops and original in my Etsy shop just listed today!

Here's another fun project I just did today. I ordered these adorable muslin bags on Etsy and they just came in yesterday! I already need more to play with!! I plan on selling them individually. They make great little sachet pouches, iPod holder, cell phone holder, candy holder you name it, anything that fits! My nice Canon Rebel just went kaput on me last night so I might just take photos with my iPhone and list them each. I was looking for something fun and quick to create that was different. I'm venturing into the world of sewing as well and may create some art pillows. We'll see. UPDATE: I have 5 bags listed right now!! Will list the other 5 later.

Last but not least is a painting I created for an upcoming show here next month called "For the birds". If this doesn't sell at the show then I am going to list it in one of my shops in October. I call it "Blackbird Paradise" the print is listed in both shops. "8 x 10".

"The Garden Calls"

This is my newest piece of mixed media. It has layers of tissue paper with flowers in the background, flower and button as well as the sketch/painting of the woman. There is a quote that runs down the piece that says: "Some people like to make a little garden out of life & walk down a path" - Jean Anouth

Size is 8" x 10" on a gallery wrapped canvas. The sides are painted green and have whimsical white and blue flowers on all sides. I decided to try a new technique of sketching with a sketch and wash pencil then seal it and add color to it. Love how soft the effect was. No harsh colors or lines in this piece. I've listed it on ArtFire need to try and get sales up on that site.

She's pensive and that came of out the type of week I've had. My daughter broke her femur and is in an immobilizing cast for 6 weeks, both legs, hips and belly and she's 2.5. Been a hard week but the art turned out beautiful. Out of ashes come beauty.

Yesterday was the worst day of my life. A door fell on Lorelei in an off limits room yesterday at my parents house. I wasn't even there for 10 minutes and this happened. My niece Corlin grabbed this free standing door and it fell on Lo. My SIL opened the door for Corlin to go in this room, it's the living room and she didn't know it was off limits yet because she had just gotten there. I rushed in and found Lo laying next to the door holding her leg. Things could have been much worse or fatal. I'm thankful it's just a broken leg. There was also glass in this door. No cuts on her or Corlin. I rushed Lo to her Peds and we got the order for X-Rays. It was a waiting game all day at the hospital. After x-rays we found out she has a spiral fracture of her left femur which is the best fracture to get, it heals the best. The problem is the cast she has to wear. Her legs are in a fixed position and there is a slot to fit a diaper into. This is not going to be fun, we have to try and keep her clean too. No baths, she'll be in this cast for 6 weeks. They had to bring her to the OR and give her IV's and put her under in order to reset and cast her up. That is the worst feeling in the world seeing being wheeled away by doctors. I know it's just a broken leg but it was gut wrenching. I was sobbing like a baby. She was a trooper and didn't question the doctors, she did everything they asked. She knows her leg is broken and isn't complaining too. She slept through the night last night in our bed with us, we had to keep repositioning her every few hours. Hardly got any sleep. Taking things one hour at a time. I try not to think about it and play the what if game because I start to bawl every time. My heart is breaking for my active little girl. We're going to have to keep her mind focused and active for this time. Please keep us in your prayers.

On a side note I'm probably not going to be doing much art lately but I'll try. I'm going to be her legs so I won't be far from her side. I will try to update when I can. Thank you for your patience.

Today is our 10 year anniversary!! WOW! Never thought I'd be a stay-at-home working mom with a 2.5 year old 10 years ago!! We made it to a huge milestone!! Hi all!

This has been one crazy summer for me and I haven't had a chance to do much new art :( I had this LARGE canvas just sitting behind my easel for a few years and I decided to use black gesso on it (which I LOVE). I've been staring at the black canvas for a few weeks and decided to sketch something on it. This is what came out of my head in 5 minutes! I like it! Still lots more details to work on but I'm taking pictures of each stage to view the progress. I'm trying to take more risks with my art and not plan things out but just go with what comes out. It's a hard one for me sometimes which is so funny because I'm a very spontaneous person. What do you do that helps you get past your artistic blocks and planned out canvases? I could use some help in that area! I will continue to post progress photos. I still need a title but figure that will come once it's finished. So what do you think? I'd love to hear!

So I got a tattoo today out of the blue! Actually I was at my eye appt. waiting to check out when my hubby texted me to say that there was a cancellation at the tattoo shop where I go and to call them! I was not expecting a tattoo today, I had to wait until Aug. 8th to get it done. I was thrilled when I found out. He was home sick today, if he hadn't been sick I would have had to pass on the appt. today. It all worked out the way it should have I think. This lovely fresh tattoo is in honor of my late Nana who passed away a few months ago. She loved strawberries and cardinals and there are 13 lily of the valley's as well which was her birthday and the same day she passed on her 89th birthday. This cardinal was based on a painting I did while she was sick. This painting is now hanging on my side of the bed where I can see it daily. While I was getting the tattoo done I could picture her looking down on me saying, "my Aimée!!" which she often said while laughing. I miss her dearly and can't wait to be reunited in Heaven with her some day. My wonderful tattoo artist is Kristen from In Living Color Tattoo! I'd work with her again in a heartbeat! She did my first tattoo as well. Just thought I'd share!

A Great Idea!

This is something a bit different and not at all art related so please bear with me. My sister in law Becky came up with this great website the other day and I want to share it with blogland. I don't think any parent will argue when I say that the greatest education you will ever get comes when you have children. For instance, finding out just how many seconds of a parent's inattention it takes for a toddler to empty a whole bottle of baby powder on the new laminate flooring. Or, just how much milk an infant's stomach can hold and then expel in a fantastic yet horrific manner. Or how much everything goes up in price the minute you slap the word infant on it. Or how time seems to bend once you have kids. And by that I mean that no matter how much "extra" time you give yourself to get you and the kids out the door, you will never, ever, make it on time. Or just how a small amount of baby poo with its distinct texture and odoriferous emanation can bring a 6 foot man of steel to his knees, wretching and gagging in mere seconds. Yes, being a parent is the most valuable education one will ever receive. As my children grow, my education continues. It dumbfounds me at how these tiny people can continuously amaze every day with what they've learned without me realizing they have learned it. It also amazes me at how today's baby industry reaches into our pockets, getting us to spend more and more on items that we have to have. How does one survive today without a top of the line car seat or a reclining high chair? Well you don't. You take out a loan, maybe a second mortgage, sell some blood, or get a hold of one of those gold refiners we see on TV all the time now. (Just don't tell your husband).

Having children is not cheap. It's the absolute most rewarding experience but it is not cheap. Just recently, my husband and I found ourselves in the not so unique (I'm assuming we aren't the first to have this issue) position of having two baby monitors that were not made by the same company. Even though they had different channels to cut out static, we still could only get one channel to work at a time and therefore, only hear one of the kids at a time. I should mention that we have a 2 year old daughter and a 3 month old son at this time. So we still really need the monitors. We decided to invest in a new monitor, having to buy two so that we wouldn't have the channel issue again. Doing so made our current monitors useless. Well not useless. They could help collect some of the dust in our home and take a load off the piano. But, no, maybe someone else out there is looking for a baby monitor cheap. So I looked on a local website to see if anyone was in need and willing to pay a small amount for the monitor. I ended up getting in contact with a woman that needed a monitor as well as a "baby bumbo". In corresponding with her I learned that she, like us, had a huge need for baby items but lacked the corresponding amount of money. We struck a deal. I would give her the monitors and bumbo that we no longer used and she would give me a sit and stand stroller. No cash exchanged, no check writing, just a simple, yet very fruitful trade for both parties.

The day after this happened, I was up at 4am feeding our son when it hit me. There should be a website that simply trades baby items. Families would save so much money and would be able to clear items out that they didn't need anymore and get the things they did need. I got online and searched. Surely this wasn't an original idea I had. This has to exist in the vast universe that is the internet. I came up with nothing. There was one site in the UK that traded stuff but also sold stuff. Not good enough in my eyes. I wanted a strictly trading baby items site. And thus The Trading Baby was born. I went to Go Daddy, bought myself a domain and a website (for rather cheap I might add) and had it up and running within a couple hours. Then, to get the word out. Family and friends are the best advertisers in the world so I emailed everyone I knew and asked for help in getting The Trading Baby off the ground. I also went to Cafepress and opened a free shop. I created a support page on The Trading Baby that linked to the shop I created and voila, more advertising and a little financial support for the website.

So there. Just by having kids, I've been educated in love, odors, finances, insomnia, physics, creativity, website development, sales, time management, etc, etc, etc. And now, because of my children, I might be able to help 100's of families save a little money and still have what they need. Life is good. A little smelly some times, but good.

Hello Everyone!

Well that missing mojo that has been gone so long has now returned home to me!! I'm thrilled that I'm creating again and it feels soooo good too! Maybe I just needed a break for awhile. I did get that needed push to create too just the other day. I was asked to be the featured artist at The Great Adirondack Soup Co. for the month of July. This is the 2nd time I've displayed there and people can buy the art right off the wall! We'll see how it goes. I also have been asked to sell my art in a new studio that is opening up in the next few weeks so I've been busy getting ready for that too. With all of that happening I will have my art in 3 places locally for the month of July and 2 after that! How cool is that? I'm so excited. When I have more info on the new studio I'll post it here.

OK the title of this blog is "The Dresses" so let's get on with it! I am finished my little dress series!! I'm thrilled with how they all turned out! I was given a HUGE bag of scraps from my friend who makes the cutest aliens to adopt named Lindsey. That is what sparked this series to begin with. There are 6 altogether and I may make more. I've done them in 6 different languages based on my love of travel and other cultures. To date I've done French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian and English. Here they are! Hope you like them. I intend on selling these at the new studio so I just need to wire the backs and they're all set! Let me know what you think.

The Wheaton Kissy Face Pose - we're starting Lo early

Hi all,

Life has been very crazy for my family this past year and we decided we would try to go to Florida to visit with J's family and his visiting family from CA and TX. We looked up tickets to go and lo and behold (hear the heavenly choir singing?) we purchased tickets for $29 each way!! Our RT tickets were $60! INSANE!!! How could we resist at those prices! So we just got back from FL for a week vacation full of fun places, lots of swimming, family and friends!! I know I've been missing in action for quite some time but I hope this post will keep you coming back! I still haven't recouped from my Nana's passing, my art mojo seems to have left with her. I hope it comes back soon. I need my creativity, it's what has gotten me through the last rough year. I'm happy to say things at home are back to normal and we are all a happy family again and this vacation really showed that to me. We had a wonderful time down there and didn't want to come back to NY. Some of the highlights were, Downtown Disney, stay at a B & B in St. Pete overnight, Sea World, Butterfly Encounter and daily swimming!!! Lorelei got to play with her 2 cousins, aunties and uncles and friends. I can't wait to go back possibly in the Fall. Here are some photos of the trip! I also wanted to thank those of you who have been praying for my Nana. She passed away this past week on the 13th of all days which was her birthday. This is what I wrote the night it happened.

Just wanted you to get the feeling of Nana's surroundings tonight. I am just now getting home. Nana died peacefully tonight and was at peace and surrounded by her children. I left about 15 minutes before to head home with my Dad and Becky. I am relieved but really sad at the same time. I loved this woman more than anything in the world. God was there it was evident in the peace in the room, also the view from her bed was of God's wonderful creatures. We were joking that Nana was Snow White because all of these wild animals were at her window or close to it. Chipmunks playing, squirrels, a badger, 2 young deer, rabbits, various birds. I am not kidding one bit. The animals were all there and not scared at all. The hard part was when 2 cardinals landed on the bench near her window. Cardinals were Nana's favorite birds and were with her at the end.

Goals and a Giveaway!!!

I'm a big goofball and needed a laugh! LOL

I don't know about you but I could use a giveaway for all my sweet readers. hmmmm. Any takers? More about the giveaway in a bit. This post is all about goals. I have had a lot of goals in the past that haven't happened due to my laziness or poor planning. Being a mom has taught me that I need to properly plan a day otherwise things just will not happen that you want to happen. I've decided to take that to the next level with my art. My art came about from being bored during the long Northern NY winters we have here. It ignited a passion in me I didn't even know existed until really this past year. I found my niche in Mixed Media and I'm not looking back!!!!! I think it's from all those years of using Photoshop at my old job doing graphic design that did it. Why? Because in Photoshop you use layers to build your compositions and that's exactly like mixed media. I just LOVE it and I think it comes naturally to me because of my previous graphic design experience.

Art = Life to me right now. It makes me happy inside. Lately I have heard that from a lot of people who like my art, it makes them feel happy and that in turn makes me happy all over again! OK so I rabbit-trailed a bit. I'm sorry. Anyways what I was getting at is I'm taking my goals to another level with my art. This year it is my goal to get my art published in at least one publication!! I would love to be in one of those fabulous Somerset Studio publications any one or my favorite Cloth Paper Scissors, I don't care which!!! That is my goal. I'm realizing I'm not making art now that I think people will want to buy, I'm making art that is coming out of my soul. This is helping me with my goal because I have been getting some great exposure lately. I think it helps to say it out loud too!! I have a mental goal list that I plan and hope to accomplish this year. Have you done that too? I think it helps to keep me on track, I probably should write it down.

One of my other goals is to simplify! My art is all over the place and now that I've found my niche I need to simplify my shops. I think I'm getting out of the bookmark biz and may do a sale of those. I am also going to discontinue prints that haven't sold in a year except for a few special ones. Gotta keep it simple and clean!

Last but not least is the never changing lose weight goal! UGH! Seems like it never ends. I am on track though and started the South Beach Diet last week and LOVE the food. So we'll see how I do on phase one and if I'll continue but man it's a struggle!! I know I'm not alone. I'd love to look like this again!

I have a Lovely Lulette!!!!

I'm so very excited about this little piece of art!!! If you don't know what a Lulette is then check out Jenn McGlon's shop!! These miniatures are super popular and now I know why, they're simply adorable!! I've been trying for over a year to get one! She sells out almost as fast as she lists. I tried once and I didn't even have 10 seconds to preview the item before it was snatched up. These are hotcakes! I had a very rough day with saying goodbye to my Nana and this box was in my mailbox when I got home which brough a smile to my face. It's super cute with a big splash of pretty! I took photos of the opening process!! Her packaging was adorable too. Anyways BIG SHOUT OUT to Jenn at Noodle and Lou! Check her out you won't be disappointed. Thanks Jenn!!

2 More Little Ones

Got busy last night creating and it felt good. I think my creativity is going to help get me through this rough time. I'm so thankful for this gift from God.

I made molds of these flowers out of vintage pins, buttons and beads so I can recreate them at any time!! I may do a series of these with limited color schemes. It was so much fun!! I melted UTEE in my melting pot and poured them into the molds!! So much fun and a whole new world to explore!!! This is a 5 x 5 piece and has water color crayons, acrylics, UTEE flowers, silver marker and oil marker. This is now listed on ArtFire.

A Little French
I started this piece a few weeks ago and never finished it until last night. I like how it turned out. I used a light molding pasted for the Fleur de Lis and stamped in the image from a foam stamp I have. It has lots of nice texture to it. It's now listed on Etsy.

Thank you to all who responded to my blog yesterday. Reading everyone's heartfelt comments made my day a bit easier. This is a rough time and I know she will no longer be in pain so that eases it a bit but I'm sure going to miss my Nana. I'm working on another tattoo in memory of her. It will probably include a cardinal, a strawberry and some lily of the valley flowers. All her favorites. I'll keep you posted on that.

Blogging through the tears.

This is the last photo I have with my Nana and Lorelei. This was taken last summer. We have rough winters here and it didn't make it easy to get across the lake to VT unless we took the ferry across. The ferry is ridiculously expensive and so most of the time we don't go across either way. My biggest regret is not getting over there more to visit my sweet Nana and Papa with Lorelei.

I'm absolutely heartbroken right now. The last time I spoke to Nana was right before my trip to Holland. We were trying to arrange a time for them to help us get to the airport in Burlington. It didn't work out because of schedules, they weren't going to be around when we got back from Holland because they were going on vacation to Costa Rica, something my Aunt set up for them. My cousin and their grandson lives in CR and they were going to see him and get some warm weather during our cold winter. She went there as Nana and came back differently.

Nana suffered a fall and stroke while she was there and was put on Life Support in CR for weeks, then she started improving is what we were told. We couldn't get a straight read on her CAT scan of her brain. The care there was phenomenal I was told and she was in good hands. Various family members went to visit and care for her as well. I was going to try and go but it was too difficult financially for us as well as who would take care of Lo. I never went.

She was just medivac'd back here last week and put in the local hospital. She has a DNR order in place and my Papa was told by the local neurologist that her brain has atrophied and what she is now is what she will be, basically a vegetable. My Nana would never have wanted this to happen. She was so full of life and energy and lived up to her red hair!!

My Papa made the choice 2 nights ago to let nature take it's course. Not sure how much longer she'll be with us. I'm going to try and go over on Tuesday to say my goodbyes. How do you say goodbye to the most wonderful woman in the world? She was the glue in our family, she loved a good party, she still worked out 3 times a week at her gym even at 88 years old. She was a strong woman of God. Devout Jesus follower and the best Nana I could have ever had. She wasn't just my Nana she was a dear friend. I lived with them for 6 months and we had some great times together. It was in the 90's and I even taught her the macarena!! We used to dance together in her kitchen to it and I started calling her the "Maca-Nana". We had so many inside jokes the two of us. I am going to miss her spice for life, her laugh, her face squishes and big kisses. Her calling to talk to Lorelei just to say "I love you". She is truly going to be missed and a big chunk of my heart is being ripped out. I love you Nana more than you ever will know.

Part of me is at peace knowing she's going to Heaven. She is going to be reunited with her Savior and also her son Michael who died 20 years ago. What a happy reunion that will be. I've had months to come to grips with all of this but it's not helping. Please pray for my family as we go through this hard time.

I bought this necklace as a reminder of her and as a reminder to pray while she was still in CR. It helped me out. It was meant for me because of the name and the stone. My Nana's birthday is May 13th, her birthstone is the emerald which was one of her favorites. I bought this necklace from one of my favorite sellers on Etsy named Kathryn Riechert. She has become a sweet online friend and has made some special pieces of jewelry for me. It's a keepsake for sure. This necklace was named "Renewed" by her and it just jumped off the page of her shop and I bought it instantly. I was looking for something to remind me to pray for Nana, this did. I have only taken it off once since I bought it. It has an emerald for a stone. My plan was to bury this with Nana once I knew she was renewed. I was hoping she would get better and I was going to give it to her or if not I was going to bury it with her. She wants to be cremated so now what do I do? I think I might hang it on a wall with my art or something as a memorial to her. What do you think?

I'm sorry for the long blog but my heart is just overwhelmed and I needed to get this off my chest.

Hi all!!

I've been cleaning out my studio the last few days and it's a disaster zone!!! I should have those yellow warning strips all over the place. Caution look out for falling art! The good thing is I have found things that have been missing for forever, things I have forgotten about and more. I am starting to see my desk which means more room for more art. I've put purchased art up on the wall where it should be finally and will post a photo when my studio becomes clean again.

Speaking of art, I have listed 4 originals on ArtFire and 4 originals on Etsy. We'll see which sells faster! I need to get rid of these pieces, I have no more room in my bulging studio. If you see something you like please TWEET it or pass it on to someone else I would like to clear things out.

A new life to an old painting! I revamped this older piece of mine last night and I'm super happy with how it turned out. My art has changed so much since I started painting in 2006! This tree had been sitting around for 3 years, I almost threw it out year ago, glad I didn't. My skills have improved as well as my techniques. I love that I do mixed media because you can do so much more than with just paint!! Anyways I hope you like this piece, it's a different color scheme then I have done. Not much blue in the piece but it has a nice feeling to it.

I also completed this little piece as well. More of my ice cream flowers!! It's called Chocolate Chip Bouquet! Enjoy! YUM!

Hi all!

Just wanted to show you my newest piece, just finished today!!! I just love it!!! It makes me happy and we could all use a little happy in the world today! I am calling this LARGE piece "Stand Out In Your Field" - a double entendre. It's 24" x 36" on thick gallery wrapped canvas. The bird was a lot of fun to do because I used Claudine Hellmuth's sticky back canvas and also some of her new paints. VERY FUN!! I highly recommend it. It was great doing the bird that way because it made for easy placement, I didn't mess up the canvas by putting the bird in the wrong spot and I could try it out ahead of time to see where I wanted to put it.

I also used some oil paint markers which was awesome for detail!!! New for me and I won't be painting in black all the time now that I found these markers. So this guy is pretty much finished, just need to beeswax it and paint the sides. Hope you like it!! I really do and I'm so proud of it!!! I will be listing this soon on Etsy. I need to restock my shop with originals and this is the first!! Enjoy!

Hi all,

Just wanted to write a little about the art walk I had been posting about earlier. Well it was this weekend and it was the first really nice weather we've had which I thought would bring the crowds, um no. Not up here! Everyone was busy doing things outside, why not it was the first gorgeous day in a really long time up in the cold north country! Anyways we had spurts of people come in. Nobody really buying anything but I got lots of great feedback. My art will be up for a few more weeks at the Lily Pond so if you're nearby go check it out, it's much better in person! I did sell the sweet little piece above named "Create" to a sweet young lady named Ella. She was 8 and 3/4 years old and came in with her mother Dena who also purchased my new piece Happy Happy for her office. Ella is very creative and just loved this and the colors were her favorite. They were my sales for the day which was great because they were so appreciative of my art and gave me great feedback! It was nice to be so appreciated. I was displaying next to my friends from the Lily Pond who do amazing bead work that I would have no patience for! I was honored they asked me to be a part of it!! All in all it was a good day!!!

Hi all!!

I'm blogging to let you know if you're local you can check out my art in person and meet me! I'd love to meet you!! My art is featured in the annual art walk in Plattsburgh which takes place on Saturday the 25th from 4-6 pm. I have about 35 pieces available for purchase as well as prints and bookmarks. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous so we should have an awesome turn out!

I'm also excited because my art made it into the paper too. So much cool artsy stuff going on!

Hi all!

Wanted to show you my latest piece that was listed today on Etsy!

Welcome home with this piece of original art on birch wood! This is a joyful day complete with a singing girl, her cat, a random pretty balloon, hearts, fluffy clouds cute birdies and flowers. This piece was woodburned a few times after laying on layers of acrylics and different items like glitter, color pencil, crackle paint, paper, ephemera, pencil and a cute button for a door knob. It is 12" x 24" on birch wood and is wired for immediate hanging on your wall. If you need a cheery piece this is it!! I needed some cheer and ended up creating this whimsical piece which made me smile and I hope it makes you smile too!! The back is titled and signed by me. It has been coated with a varnish spray as well to keep it looking fresh for many years!

Hi all,

Life has been so incredibly crazy for me lately so much so that I haven't been able to create. I did manage to get 2 little pieces finished though. These are both 5 x 5 canvases and both mixed media pieces. The blue one is called "Dream Big" and features a locket that opens and closes. I think it's funny that it's called Dream Big and it's really small! The next one is called "Bloom". I really like this one because I used a bunch of different techniques on it. Including using modeling paste under the paint and over painting it but really blending the paints. It has a lot of texture and also has some fiber on it as well. I've been so MIA from my blog so far this year but as I've said it's been crazy. I just got back from an unexpected trip to Cape Cod with my daughter Lorelei. One of my best friend's mothers passed away last week from cancer and she needed someone to look after her kids so she could go to the funeral in Alabama. I was able to help and boy was that tiring! Two 2 year olds and a 4.5 year old for a week. Insane. The week before that another close friend's mother died of cancer as well in Germany. Then I found out my sweet 88 year old Nana fell while on vacation in Costa Rica and had a brain hemorrhage and was on life support. She is no longer on life support but is still in a coma and seems to be improving. Prayers for her would be greatly appreciated. She can't be moved until she's stabilized so she's staying in Costa Rica. My mom flew out yesterday to be with her for 10 days. It's been a traumatic month for people around me and my family as well.

One bit of good news is that my brother and his beautiful, new wife Petrie are finally reunited and she's here in the states and no longer in Holland. I can now show your photos from their amazing wedding!! Enjoy!
